'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.
The man played a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The legal representative continued: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She explained the defendant proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the police a second time.
She explained the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
